Sensational Wines

Morton Estates Coniglio Hawkes Bay Chardonnay 2002 75cl

Winner 'Best Worldwide Chardonnay over £10' for second year in succession at Decanter World Wine Awards.

This wine is only produced in execptional years when the conditions are just right for producing perfect fruit. The grapes for this wine are selected by hand, whole bunch pressed then fermented and matured on the lees in new French oak barriques. The result is a stunning wine of exceptional style and elegance, soft yet full in the mouth with supreme length. And the potential to age for years to come. Each bottle has an individual bottle number and comes with it's own gift box. This wine is frankly sensational.

Morton Estates The Regent Bordeaux Blend 2002 75cl

Decanter World Wine Awards - Best Bordeaux Blend over £10 for 2005, 2006 and 2007! 4.5 stars Michael Cooper Wine Guide 2006

This wine is a product of Morton Estate's dedicated vineyard planting programme, matching individual grape varieties to their ideal terroir. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc matured separately in both French and American oak then blended to produce this supreme wine. Delicious fruit enhanced by a fine tannic structure to produce a wine of elegance and complexity. This wine is superb and has won a silver medal at the Decanter Wine Awards for Best Worldwide Bordeaux Blend over £10 for the last three consecutive years.

Morton Estates Hawkes Bay White Label Pinot Grigio 2007 75cl

Silver New World Wine Awards 2007. Silver San Francisco Wine Awards 2006.

The grapes for this wine come from their Kinross vineyard, harvested at optimum maturity then fermented in stainless steel. An enticing nose of tropical fruit, unusual for a Pinot Grigio as most of the European versions, tend to be aromatically challenged! This wine has more body than you'd first expect from the nose, due in part to it's maturation in French oak. Packed with flavour with just the right body and mouth feel, with a long lingering floral finish. This wine is fantastic. I realise New Zealand isn't famous for Pinot Grigio but you really should give this wine a try, it's absolutely delicious. Pair with fish or poultry or just enjoy on it's own.

Morton Estates Sparkling Method Traditionelle Black Label 2000 75cl

Gold Medal International Wine & Spirits Competition 2007 & Best in Class, Gold Medal Royal Hobart Wine Show 2005.

This is a fantastic sparkling wine, better than many Champagnes. Morton have been waiting five years to release this vintage. as it's their first vintage to consist of 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Pinot Meunier. They've dropped the Chardonnay to concentrate on the two other Champagne grapes. Pinot Meunier gives this wine it's concentrated nose and strong fruit characteristics, while the Pinot Noir contributes body and structure. The wine has a concentrated nose followed on the palate by strong fruit flavours with a rich and creamy mouthfeel. Great mousse with very well balanced acidity and a bone dry finish with great length. Once you've tried this wine you'll never go back to non vintage Champagnes again, it's pure indulgence! This is an exclsive wine with serious prestige as it's extremely rare in the UK.

Bodega San Huberto Nina Petit Verdot 2004 75cl

14% abv. This is San Huberto's 'ultra premium wine' made from 100% Petit Verdot grapes, the unsung hero of fine red Bordeaux. The grapes are hand harvested then aged in barrique for 12 months with a further 12 months in bottle prior to release. Deep dark in colour with an inky appearance, with an intense nose of concentrated fruit. This is a complex structured wine with an array of different flavours. Strong fruit on the palate initially, gives way to a slight spice then gentle pepperiness and a hint of vanilla on the really long finish. The wine is exceptionally smooth, medium bodied with a silky mouth feel. It has great balance with just the right amount of mature tannins, acidity and alcohol. This is an exceptional wine. We've only shipped a very small quantity.

Bodegas El Porvenir Amauta Cabernet Merlot 2005 75cl

14% abv. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 40% Merlot, with 6 to 8 months in French oak. We've been waiting 6 months for the release of this latest vintage. Stunning wine, it sells out so fast it's not even featured on their website. Highly recommended. Big fruit flavours, full in the mouth with an almost velvety mouth feel and a really long finish. Superbly balanced, with good acidity making it an ideal wine to enjoy with food. However I believe it's so good I just want to savour it on it's own. Jane said simply 'it's the best wine she's drunk for ages'. High praise indeed!

Emilio Moro 2004 75cl

14.5% abv. Robert Parker 92 Points. DO Ribera del Duero. Truly stunning wine from the producer of the world famous Malleolus. Emilio has named this wine after himself, so it shows the faith he has in it. It's made from the same grape as Malleolus, Tinto Fino (the local name for Tempranillo), it's the same style and alcoholic strength and from the same area. I tasted them both together and actually preferred this one despite it being a quarter of the price! The wine has a beautiful deep colour. It's very big in terms of flavour and alcohol with great balancing acidity. Very smooth with tremendous length. Absolutely superb. It's a delight to see Spain competing again with the best from the rest of the world.

Amarone Cesari 'Il Bosco' 2001 75cl

16% abv. Gerardo Cesari was IWSC Italian Wine Maker of the Year in 2004 & 2006. Yet another fabulous Amarone. 'Il Bosco' comes from a single vineyard of old established vines and is only made in exceptional years. The best quality grapes are individually selected to be dried before pressing. The wine is then aged in large barrels then smaller barriques for three years, with further bottle ageing prior to release. Delicious and one of my personal favourites!

Bodegas El Porvenir Laborum Tannat 2005 75cl

14.3% abv. Only 6576 bottles produced. What a beautiful wine! Mundus Vini International Silver Medal.Tannat is a native Argentinian grape that makes superb, big powerful wines. Made from grapes from two vineyards of 35 year old vines and two of 10 year old. Low yielding, hand harvested grapes are vinified then aged in French and American oak for 10 to 12 months. The wine is big with intense flavour, slightly spicy, well structured with balanced acidity and sweet but firm tannins. As it's still young, it really benefits from being left to breathe. It needs 30 minutes but improves dramatically if you can leave it for 60 or even 90 minutes. Similar in style to an Amarone, but a little lighter, it's delicious with food. This wine is beautiful.

Vigna Marziacanale DOC Irpinia 2005 Vinosia 75cl

14% abv. Made from 100% Aglianico by the famous wine making brothers, Mario & Luciano Ercolino. Truly stunning wine. As far as we know only available in the UK through ourselves or Harrods. We took a bottle to our friend's superb Italian restaurant to sample together, to make sure we weren't just being biassed. It was delicious, big powerful fruit balanced by strong alcohol and beautifully smooth tannins. Incredible length. But then, after our first glass, we consumed the rest with food and it was magnificent. I couldn't stop remarking at how the food kept refreshing the flavours. We waited three months for this wine to arrive from Italy and it was well worth it. When it finally arrived it was in bottles weighing 1.1 kg, even more empty than a normal bottle of wine when full! So the Ercolino brothers really value this wine to spend so much on the bottle! We only have a very limited amount available.

Valpolicella Superiore 'Ripassa' Zenato 2005 75cl

13.5% abv. Most producers from Veneto make a Ripassa., but this one from Zenato is widely regarded as the best. The Valpolicella is passed over the Amarone pomace, which creates a secondary reaction resulting in an increase in colour, flavour and alcohol. The result is a full flavoured, beautifully smooth, lingering wine, better than many co operative produced Amarones. I personally love this wine, as do the wine magazines in both Italy and the UK. I've kept the price as low as possible as I believe everyone should try this fantastic wine! Previous vintages have been awarded 'Due Biccheri' 2001, Winespectator 89 points 1999, 88 points 2000/1, Decanter panel tasting 4/5 2003.

It's a blend of the year's best three barrels, 60% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah, blended to perfection then barrel aged. Forrest Estate Marlborough Pinot Noir 2004 75cl

14% abv. A stunning example of Marlborough Pinot Noir at it's best. The Marlborough region has a long slow ripening season, due to more sunshine hours than anywhere else in New Zealand. It also receives about the same amount of heat in a season as Burgundy, but this is spread over a longer period of time so each day is a little cooler. This is great for retaining acidity in the grapes while bringing them to full ripeness. Forrest Estate is a family owned winery with the emphasis on quality rather than quantity. Don't be put off by the price thinking it's too cheap to be good, this is a fabulous wine.
