Sensational Wines
These are ideal gifts of course! Exclusive high quality wines make a great present. Many of these wines are exclusive to us in the UK
We have a lot of exceptional wines as we cherry pick the very best wines we discover, and the whole ethos of our business is about quality first.
We have far too many to list on one page though so please read through the various countries in the menu on the left of this page to find wines to suit your tastes. And please be open minded to new countries and regions, and new grape varieties as well, as there is a great deal to discover.
We now specialise in wines from Argentina and South Africa as they are producing truly world class wines, at very reasonable prices compared to old world equivalents. Cheap factory produced wines from both these countries have damaged their respective reputations in the UK, but taste their best hand made wines and you’ll be amazed at the quality….and quickly converted.
We’ve got some very good wines from Italy too, from some of the country’s top producers like Zenato, La Scolca, Santa Margherita and St Michael Eppan. We also have a small selection of excellent boutique wines from various regions in Spain.
We’ve put together an initial selection for you below, but there are many more on our site. So please read through the site at your leisure to discover some of the best wines available anywhere in the UK.

98 points – James Suckling Top 100 Wines of the World – ranked number 36th best wine in the world.
To describe this wine as something special is of course an understatement – it is superb. I first tasted this Nosotros a few years back. It was at the Argentine Ambassador’s residence in London at a big tasting where we tasted around 100 different Argentine wines. This Nosotros was head and shoulders above every other wine there. I was fortunate to get hold of some stock and have been stocking it ever since. Very possibly the finest wine to come out of Argentina.
Susana Balbo has since released two blended wines in her Nosotros range to complement this straight Malbec. If you have deep pockets they are well worth trying to experience possibly the very best Argentine red wines available.

95 Points Best Cab Franc from Chile Descorchados 2017
93 Points Robert Parker
94 Points James Suckling
We have only 6 bottles and will not be able to get any more!!
Maquis is uniquely situated at the convergence of two rivers on clay, alluvial soils making it potentially the best site in Chile for Cabernet Frank which inspired them to make this stunning wine.
It’s big and silky with red and black fruits with a light spice, then big vanilla coming through on the long finish.
This is something special.

A collaboration between Bodega Tapiz and Jean Claude Berrouet, winemaker at Chateau Petrus for 25 years (1982 -2007). Jean Claude is regarded as one of the finest winemakers the world has ever known, and a world leader with Merlot. Under his direction Chateau Petrus became one of the most expensive and sought after wines in the world.
It comes as no surprise then to find this blend is heavily dominated by Merlot. I’ve copied the Tapiz wine information into the further information page. I tasted it at Barrulo and was really impressed. This is a stunning wine, very silky and elegant. It was late on at the show by the time I tasted it so I didn’t even attempt to make my own tasting notes by that stage, so be guided by the official ones. But trust me, this is something very special from Argentina!
These notes are for the previous vintage – we have just received some of the 2018.

Sergio Zenato’s personal Riserva Amarone is something special. We’ve been stocking it for years and enjoyed many great vintages. It is the one wine we turn to when we decide to treat ourselves to a special wine. Sergio Zenato sadly passed away a few years back, so this wine is now made by his son Alberto. It is still extremely limited of course and made to honour the great Sergio Zenato who is one of the all time great exponents of Amarone.
Regrettably we’ve had to pass on significant supplier increases as Italy is struggling with excessive energy prices affecting both production and transport.

Amarone Classico Della Valpolicella Zenato to give it it’s full name is one of the finest Amarones on the market and Zenato are one of the top Amarone producers. They are members of the elite Amarone producers consortium of course. This Amarone is made by Alberto Zenato who took over the winemaking from his father, the great Sergio Zenato, who sadly passed away a few years back.
In my opinion one of the best and most consistent Amarones on the market. Certainly my favourite out of all the big name Amarones out there. I’ve been drinking this wine for as long as I can remember and have never had a disappointing vintage. Consistently excellent every year!

Premium artisan Shiraz which has beaten many big names in competitions including the wonderful Eagles Nest.
Only 1600 bottles produced of which we could only get 120.
This wine is stunningly good! And presented in a big heavyweight embossed bottle sealed with a wax top.
Very deep ruby colour with a big nose. Huge concentrated flavours with just a little South African heat, some white pepper, then the oak comes through with subtle vanilla on the very long finish.
Beautiful mouthfeel and silky smooth. South African “Rhone”. This is right up there with the very best wines we sell.

La Cayetana is the project of Emilia Soler, wife of Eduardo Soler of Ver Sacrum. She makes these amazing wines in her converted garage!
This Syrah is something special!
Reminded me very much of Boekenhoutskloof Syrah which is now (well) over £40 per bottle. Very deep ruby in colour with big legs and a spicey nose. Big fruit flavours with high natural acidity giving a nice balanced weight on the palate. Super smooth with fruit, pepper and oak all in harmony.
This is a fantastic wine in a classical elegant style.

Ver Sacrum is a very exciting newcomer. It’s basically Eduardo’s garage and a rented warehouse. A small group of Vignerons returning the original Spanish grapes to Argentina, and making the wines as naturally as possible.
This Garnacha S is fantastic. Partial carbonic maceration to avoid extracting too much tannin. Then fermented in both used 500ltr Fremch oak barrels and clay amphorae (with no skin contact, again minimising tannin extraction).
Then aged in both small oak casks and clay amphorae for 18 months, bottled and aged for a further 20 months prior to release.
Red fruit flavours with natural acidity giving it a lift (much in the style of good GSM or Chateauneuf), super smooth with a very long finish. Eduardo has achieved a great balance without the wine being “heavy”, keeping it in an elegant and classical style.

This Dona Mencia is very much in the style of top Pinot Noir, reminding me both of top Burgundy and top Elgin cool climate Pinot from South Africa. It’s a beautiful ruby colour, black and red fruit flavours initially, super smooth with some oak coming in on the very long finish. This is a class bottle of wine.

Benegas Lynch Malbec is the flagship Malbec from Federico, from some of the oldest vineyards in Argentina at Finca La Encerrada in Gualtallary, Uco Valley. Aged for 18 months in French oak then just one year in bottle before release.
Ruby with purple hints. This is a big wine with huge fruit flavours and some chocolate coming through, all presented in a very impressive heavyweight bottle. This is a blockbuster which will keep and improve for many years but is already drinking really well now.

Benegas Lynch Meritage is quite simply one of Argentina’s finest wines. A top Bordeaux blend to rival the very best from France. The first release to reach the UK was the 2004 and on first tasting I immediately bought the lot. I had never tasted anything so good from Argentina. It had great reviews from many critics being likened to a first growth Bordeaux. We have stocked all the successive vintages. The trend in Argentina now is to make their wines more European in style, a little leaner and tighter than previously which I can understand for some of the fruit bomb Malbecs, but it isn’t needed here – this is Argentine Bordeaux already!

Atamisque Petit Verdot is a single varietal to rival their superb Assemblage blend.
Hand harvested and sorted grapes of course, the wine is made on their gravity flow system with as minimal intervention as possible. Aged in new French oak for 18 months.
Typically big and powerful, very natural in style. Big black fruit, velvet smooth. This is very good wine.
Highly recommended.

Atamisque Assemblage is a superb Bordeaux Blend from Tupungato in the Uco Valley in Mendoza. This is the flagship wine of Bodega Atamisque and consists of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
The winery was designed on a gravity system to avoid the use of pumps. The grapes from the low yielding vines were hand harvested into small boxes to avoid damage then underwent a rigorous selection at the winery. The wine was subsequently aged for 14 months in new French oak. It’s a full flavoured wine with power and elegance combined, very smooth with a very long finish.
Highly recommended.

This is the maiden release of this new artisan wine which Leon just launched in Johannesburg at the end of August. He produced just 1880 bottles.
Leon says it is still tight so will benefit from decanting.
Delicious! Deep ruby opaque. Black fruit initially with some lighter red fruit toward the finish and integrated but noticeable oak. Good weight on the palate and super smooth. I decanted it to give it some air but I reckon it’d be a great wine to savour throughout an evening from freshly opened to fully aerated. Ideal in front of a log fire!
All the Fledge wines are low sulphite, but we also wanted to mention that all the free SO2 readings were at bottling which will have reduced significantly since, so they will in fact be even lower than stated now.

El Porvenir Laborum Malbec is in my opinion one of Argentina’s very best Malbecs with many awards to it’s name. Pure fruit expression with superb balance and length. The natural sugar level of these grapes from the highest quality winery in the world gives this wine incredible sweet fruit on entry. This is tempered by the oak (14 months in new both French and American). It’s super smooth, very well balanced with some vanilla coming through on the finish. If you want to see what all the fuss being made about Malbec is all about, this is the wine to go for!

Lovely wine. Still young of course, with racy acidity and firm tannins. This wine will certainly reward some cellaring but can be enjoyed now if you give it time to breathe and open up. I recommend decanting, ideally for a couple of hours or more to get the best out of it as it really opens up to become super smooth with flavours of plum and damson. I would partner this with barbequed meats or a roast.

Given the huge success with their flagship Gamka red, Margaux opted to produce a classic white Cape Blend too.
It’s a blend of Chardonnay, Viognier, Grenache blanc, Verdelho & Chenin Blanc from different regions – Elgin, Stellenbosch, Swartland and Klein Karro, so pretty much the entire Western Cape.
It was both barrel fermented and barrel matured on the lees for nine months. Bottled unfined and unflitered to retain the goodness.
Pale gold in colour with wonderful clarity. Full in the mouth with a melange of fruit flavours, delicate balanced acidity and a very long bone dry finish. This is a great wine!

La Scolca Black Label Gavi (also known as “Gigi”) is regarded as the ultimate Gavi – excepting La Scolca’s exclusive extremely limited D’Antan which is Black Label Gavi aged in tanks on the lees for a straight ten years! That is extremely limited and expensive of course but this black label is more affordable and easier to get stock of.
La Scolca Black Label Gavi is highly sought after. Although pale in colour, this is deceptive as it’s a big, rich wine packed with flavour and a real weight on the palate. It has a very very long finish.

This Cabernet Franc is from Mauricio Lorca’s vineyards at Los Árboles, Tunuyán, Alto Valle de Uco, regarded as the best area in all Argentina for growing high quality grapes.
Handpicked into small trays, the best grapes were selected where 75% were fermented then aged in French oak and 25% in American oak. The resulting wine is fantastic and is presented in an impressive heavyweight bottle.
Deep ruby in colour with big black fruit and dark chocolate flavours with some vanillin oak coming through on the long finish. Full and round in the mouth.

Due Bicchieri – Gambero Rosso ’17
Another beautiful wine from St Michael Eppan from their premium Sanct Valentin range. Normally I find Northern Italian chardonnays a little thin although I love the purity and clean feel. This one however is full bodied from being both barrel fermented (50% new, 50% used) and then further barrel aged for 11 months before bottling.
Pale gold in colour. Full of flavour with fruit and vanilla, rich and round with good mouthfeel. Beautifully balanced with integrated acidity and a long luscious finish. Superb.

The signature wine from Vallisto Extremo, this Felix is a blend of old vine Tannat and comparatively young Malbec, micro vinified in 225 litre oak casks!
Very deep ruby in colour. Big red fruit flavours, concentrated intense and very long. Big natural acidity, midweight on the palate and very smooth with a long finish.
This wine is quite something. I’m personally delighted to see a quality Argentine winemaker steering away from the recent trend to make savoury Bordeaux styled wines and head back to what I belive makes top Argentine wines unique – fruit and elegance combined.

Just moved onto the 2015 which is a blend of Malbec, Bonarda & Tannat
Only 8500 bottles produced. I’m a huge fan of El Porvenir – they’re Laborum wines are stunning, and this is even better. It’s a big, powerful wine but also structured and refined. El Porvenir is the highest quality winery in the world, and that altitude lends certain characteristics to the wines which make them some of the very best in Argentina. The altitude produces wines with sweet tannins and good body with plenty of acidity which is essential for making top quality balanced wines. The soil also contains greater mineral and salt content which influences the wine’s flavour. It’s a superb wine, with big fruit flavours, sweet tannins, backbone and structure. It’s full in the mouth and wonderfully smooth with great overall balance. Fantastic wine!
