Gavi dei Gavi La Scolca Gigi Black Label DOCG

La Scolca Black Label Gavi (also known as “Gigi”) is regarded as the ultimate Gavi – excepting La Scolca’s exclusive extremely limited D’Antan which is Black Label Gavi aged in tanks on the lees for a straight ten years! That is extremely limited and expensive of course but this black label is more affordable and easier to get stock of.

La Scolca Black Label Gavi is highly sought after. Although pale in colour, this is deceptive as it’s a big, rich wine packed with flavour and a real weight on the palate. It has a very very long finish.

Currently on the 2021 vintage.

Gavi dei Gavi La Scolca Black Label Gigi is widely regarded as the best Gavi in production (not including La Scolca's D'Antan as it is extremely rare and difficult to find which is Black label Gavi aged on the lees in stainless steel tanks for ten years!).

La Scolca were the first winery to produce Gavi, and they trademarked the term "Gavi dei Gavi" hence you will see that other producers call their wines "Gavi di Gavi".

For nearly 100 years La Scolca have been producing super premium white wines, and super premium sparkling wines, and they're widely regarded as one of Italy's premier wineries.

La Scolca is still family owned today and run by Giorgi Soldati (the 4th generation of his family to run La Scolca) and his daughter Chiara. Their success is down to dedicated winemaking but also the location of their vineyards. All grape varieties are different to each other and suit different soils and climates. The Cortese grape is perfectly matched to the terroir of the tiny sub region known as "Rovereto" where La Scolca have their vineyards. It's known locally as the Grand Cru of Gavi.

Their wines are superb, and this Black Label Gavi has been very popular for us, being one our biggest selling white wines
